چکیده

Surface wave method can be used to determine the properties of the component materials of a pavement structure. The measurements are made of the differences in the phase of a wave of the Rayleigh type, received at two points at known radial spacing from the source of the wave. Pavements for highways or airport runways are usually constructed of cement concrete. Such pavements are treated as a single layer of a constant thickness overlying a semi-infinite medium. The system is dispersive and inverse methods can be employed to determine the properties of the materials of the component layers of the structure. Algebraic inverse method has been developed and employed to conduct the inversion process of the experimental dispersion curve in order to back calculate the unknown parameters of the system.

Incremental layerwise finite element formulation for viscoelastic response of multilayered pavements

This paper provides an incremental layerwise finite element formulation for the viscoelastic analysis of multilayered pavements.  The constitutive behavior of asphalt concrete is represented by the Prony series. Layerwise finite element has been shown to provide an efficient and accurate tool for the numerical simulation of laminated structures. Most of the previous research on numerical simula...

Numerical simulation of granular materials behaviour for unbound base layers used in Algerian pavement structures

Structural analysis of flexible pavements has been and still is currently performed using a multi-layer elastic theory. However, for thinly surfaced pavements subjected to light to medium volumes of traffic, the importance of non-linear stress-strain behaviour of unbound granular materials (UGM’s) requires the use of more sophisticated numerical models for structural design and analysis of such...

Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Evaluation of Flexible Pavements Based on Shakedown Concept

In this paper, three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analysis was performed on flexible pavements under vertical repeated traffic loads to evaluate their shakedown behavior. Six different pavements with different structural number (SN) were modeled and subjected to a wide range of cyclic vehicle loads. Shakedown limits were obtained considering both failure and serviceability restrain...

Application of Finite Layer Method in Pavement Structural Analysis

The finite element (FE) method has been widely used in predicting the structural responses of asphalt pavements. However, the three-dimensional (3D) modeling in general-purpose FE software systems such as ABAQUS requires extensive computations and is relatively time-consuming. To address this issue, a specific computational code EasyFEM was developed based on the finite layer method (FLM) for a...

Behavior of Flexible Pavements on Expansive Soils

This investigation discusses the findings on analysis results of a pavement structure constructed on a relatively expansive material consisting mainly of brown clayey silt in Tebessa, Algeria. Cores were brought to the laboratory from a piece of roadwork. Remolded samples were taken from subgrade of a deteriorated road. The soils were generally found to be of medium plasticity and of a medium t...
